Bolivia - Trees for the future
ARBOLES Y FUTURO has been engaged with the local population in the district of Cochabamba since 2006. The purpose is to provide an alternative to the meager income in agriculture through forestry. Forestry provides new sources of income while protecting the soil from erosion. ARBOLES Y FUTURO supports these activities mainly through transfer of know-how.

The project supports about 1‘800 local families in the communities of Alalay, Colomi, Sacaba, Sipe, Tarata and Tiraque in planting young trees, registering and protecting their plots and finally producing wood that is meeting market demand. An important partner is the department of forestry at the University of Cochabamba, ESFOR-UMSS, where students gain practical experience and engage in research projects. In addition a curriculum was set up to train forest keepers.
