Nepal - Sarvaguna - Gastronomy training for students from Low-income backgrounds
Nepal’s traditional food culture, once centered on locally grown, fresh ingredients, is increasingly being replaced by processed foods. This shift has led to widespread issues of undernutrition and malnutrition, significantly affecting children's health and well-being.
Sarvaguna Foods and Kitchen address this challenge by providing nutritious meals to over 5,000 children daily, while also promoting the benefits of organic, locally produced food.
In collaboration with Sarvaguna and Nepal Food Networks, the Swiss NGO Cuisines sans Frontières has launched a training facility in Pokhara. Here, students from low-income families receive hands-on culinary education, blending theoretical knowledge with practical skills, much like the Swiss apprenticeship model.

Pokhara, a hub for tourism in central Nepal and a gateway to the Annapurna trekking region, offers promising career opportunities in its many hotels and restaurants for graduates of Sarvaguna’s program.
Beginning in 2024, Fontana Foundation will provide the essential funding to further enhance the education program and to cover the training facility’s operational costs.
